This movie CERTAINLY was a breath of fresh air from the live-action film. And I tell you as a gamer and a Mario fan, you will NOT be disappointed. And that's mostly thanks to the CGI.
The writers and Illumination really tried to bring out the best parts of the franchise and characters. And ESPECIALLY their relationships.
Mario and Luigi ACTUALLY feel like a proper dynamic sibling duo. Peach and Toad ACTUALLY have character! Mario and DK's rivalry is very interesting. Bowser is 100% King Koopa!
Yes, the plot is predictable, but it's Mario. Of course the plot is predictable. But it really gave the Bros an interesting origin and their extended family.
The only bad thing, to me, is the length. It's an hour and a half...and the plot DID suffer a little because of that. Then again, it's mainly made for children, so that's probably not surprising.
Overall, this movies deserves a higher rating than what RottenTomatoes gave it. Then again, critics will ALWAYS try to start drama.
That's why they're meaningless. And why the average movie goer, like us regular people, should have more say in how good a movie is. So ignore the critics and listen to the average person.
This movie was GOOD and worth the watch. A solid 8.5 to a 9.5 out of 10. It's THAT good.
