i’ve always heard from friends that black swan is one of the best films ever made, but never truly understood why until i finally watched it for the first time. in my opinion, it’s disturbing, but beautiful. natalie portman did a fantastic job at capturing the realistic struggles of not just a dancer, but a perfectionist. you feel bad for her at first, believing that she’s a victim because of the people she interacts with when the truth gradually comes to terms with you: she’s actually the villain. she puts so much pressure on herself to be the perfect swan princess and it just gets worse and worse for her mental health to the point of no return. the visuals and the music also adds to how beautiful portman portrays this and explains why her oscar was so well-deserved. as a former dancer myself, this movie is one that will haunt me because of how relatable nina’s mindset was. i don’t think i’ll ever forget some of the scenes in this film and believe that anyone who embodies a perfectionist will either. black swan is a must-watch masterpiece that everyone needs to see before it’s too late. five stars for sure
