For the ardent faithful, this is as far a cry away from the source material as its 80s predecessor. That said, the stunning visuals, fx, and parts that did right by the novel were distracting enough to be celebrated, and to introduce yet another generation to Herbert's masterpiece. The latter part of the film felt heavily edited, and very much a devised set up for subsequent films, which heavily detracted from an otherwise excellent film.
