This movie did a TERRIFIC job of showing society what the real world looks like through girls’ eyes. When Barbie enters the real world and is immediately cat-called and feels threatened, while Ken feels confident and respected immediately. Having to learn the impossible standards that young women are held to, how they are treated, and how they are viewed, simply because they were born the “wrong” sex. That Barbie, instead of being a feminist icon, has actually been the center of a lot of little girls’ insecurities. In the business world if a woman succeeds it automatically means they’re taking opportunities from deserving men. At the end of the film, Barbie shows us that if we really wanted it to, our world could have a balance between the genders/sexes. Where there is no matriarchy or patriarchy, just democracy. Where Barbies, Kens, Alan, and Midge alike are equal and free to choose their path and find themselves. I could not be happier with this movie, thanks again Barbie!
