A wonderful movie in every respect. A brash Scotsman totally formed by his culture comes face-to-face with cosmopolitan San Francisco where his son resides. His son is the first MacNeil to leave the vllage in 2000 years. The depth of his father’s identity contrasts with the hollowness of modern sophisticated Americans. My comments are far too heavy. As a result of the fine acting and direction the scenes dance along entertainingly and in the end powerfully. See it!

While I can understand it’s not for everyone I consider it absolutely brilliant, capturing life as it is and extremely moving. There is so much escapist drama which has its place but it is essentially garbage, entertaining but meaningless. This is a show about real people done with grittiness and grace with a finely developed sense of irony and pathos. It should be winning all kinds of awards instead of being canceled. I just hope Joseph Gordon Levitt gets another chance and another one after that. There is rare genius in this man and it will be a shame if we I don’t get to see more of it because of commercial considerations
