The Casting of Frank Stone is a game that had a lot of potential, but ultimately fell sort of flat for my first play through, granted I did couch co-op for the first play. One of the main reasons for this though, is the lack of substance in the storyline. Without the Dead by Daylight Easter eggs, the plot felt thin and uninteresting, making it difficult to stay invested in the game if your character wasn’t playing, and the only real character to play with varying options and decisions to make is Linda.
To continue on the couch co-op tirade, The Casting of Frank Stone’s multiplayer mode is poorly balanced leaving anyone not playing one of two characters feeling left out and unimportant. Additionally, the decisions and actions of the characters seemed to have little impact on the overall storyline ending, making it feel like the player's choices didn't really matter.
Compared to the other horror games in the franchise like Until Dawn and The Quarry, The Casting of Frank Stone just doesn't measure up. These other games offer more engaging storylines, scarier moments, and overall a more satisfying gaming experience. If you're looking for a horror game that will keep you on the edge of your seat, The Casting of Frank Stone may not be the best choice.
My first play through is honestly a 2/5 stars but the fact that they have a “cutting room” where you can go back and alter past decisions has brought it up to 3/5 stars knowing that one day I’ll go back and play a single run through and maybe enjoy it a tad more.
