Brilliant book. A fantasy that isn't all war and blood. Not necessarily easy to read. Like the stories within the story. Very well written. Some pages you can read just for the sake of that page(s). Like the subtle magic. Not perfect, nothing is, some bits towards the end are a bit silly. (Bee's). But still, read it once then read it immediately again. One of the best books I have ever read. Also read "night circus", which is similar, but different. That's brilliant too. Can't wait for her next book.

One of the best books I have read. Makes a good change from the blood, guts and war associated with most fantasy. If you like this then read The Starless Sea also by Erin Morganstern , if anything it's even better. Similar, but different. Although not perfect, no book is, it is well written. Rather confusing at times, but couldn't put it down re read it again immediately. Some pages, or short chapters can be read in isolation, just for their immediate content. But like marmite, you either love it or hate it.
