So exciting to see Mariana island culture depicted in film anytime I see it. Horror is also one of my favorite genres so I felt like this movie was totally perfect for me. I appreciate the connection to the historical traumas the island’s have faced, such as the Japanese and the Spaniards. The taotaomo’na were sick lol The only bad thing I can say about the movie, and the reason I’m giving it 4 stars (besides the lack of actual Chamorro spoken and the questionable depiction of the character “Pepe”) is the occasional bad actor, specifically “Paulina.” Otherwise, really awesome movie. We need more movies about the Mariana Islands.

i was really enjoying the show, but the reveal at the season finale that maddie wasn’t really dead ruined it for me. it just annoyed me so much. i liked the idea that maddie was killed by a ghost, but not that it’s possessing her body. i might watch the next season when it comes out, but i’ll stop for real if maddie gets her body back. the thing with death, is that it is final. there’s no going back, and doing so in a show or movie gets on my nerves because it feels like a cop out. it gives the vibe that the writers and show runners are using death to drive the plot, but are unwilling to commit to it. granted, i’m in the funeral industry so i get picky about how death and dying is portrayed on screen/in books. anyways, yeah… good show, awful season finale.
