For context, I am an adult now. This is still my favourite show. Watching it when I was younger I didn't understand most of the darker topics but watching it back more recently... gosh, it's a wild ride and I love it.
I honestly think the lore is so well thought through, some of the best foreshadowing in tv history. Rebecca and their crew knew exactly what they were doing when they wrote this, and tried so hard to make sure CN would let them do with the show what would be best for the people watching and the people writing. No filler episodes. NO FILLER EPISODES? You ask, and I answer yes. There's no filler episodes. Although they might feel like it, every episode explains details of the story in some way. Whether it's treatment of gems in homeworld, volleyball, the gem war. These are all things explained in little pieces throughout the fun episodes that make all of them necessary to watch.
Some of the 1 star reviews here completely miss the point here or are just kind of written by bigots who don't know how to be happy. I saw one saying how it's woke propaganda? Respectfully to anyone who thinks this: shut your face, look at the cute lil alien rock holograms get married on the beach, and smile a little. It doesn't matter that they're both girls, they aren't gonna pop out of the screen and force you to transition and marry amethyst. Chill out. It's a cartoon about a little boy try to make up for his auntie's spooky alien genocides, it won't turn your brain into a cotton candy rainbow.
I saw another review get upset about the uncle grandpa crossover. Grow up. That is a couple of animators getting together to try to entertain some 10 year olds, the lore is not forever scarred by an old man in an RV.
ANYWAY, the art is phenomenal. Big props to Steven Sugar for the backgrounds, they're so inspiring and breath so much life into the show. It's a shame that his other show got cancelled for basically the exact same reason (lookin at you disney).
Music is so fun too, so silly and light hearted.
The movie is amazing, the spin off show is okay if you understand what the crewniverse were trying to explain with it.
Unless your religion stops you, watch this show. I beg of you.
