Very confused from some of the poor ratings given to this series... I suppose a lot of viewers expected it to be non-stop action, as it was like while playing the video games.
There are only two or three episodes tops where action and chaos ensues , but the plot and character insight is great in my opinion; I read the Fall of Reach when I was younger and this series did a GREAT job at setting the perception of the Spartans from a human perspective.
The video games failed to really demonstrate what it was like for these Spartans to be abducted at a young age and conditioned in such brutal, controversial methods. Some of these details were presented better in the books and film series adaptation than they ever were in the video games.
I also appreciate the deepening of the plot with characters like Makee and such. I believe the enhanced plot and character cast helps open up more doors for the incorporation of thematic ideas and concepts that one would see in books and films of futuristic dystopian works like Brave New World, a Clockwork Orange, Children of Men, 1984, etc as you see the things Halsey does in the "name of science and humanity" often conflict with human definitions of what is deemed to be morally righteous. Or themes of what it means to be able to make your own human decisions and how that sole principle is what, in essence, makes us human.
other notes:
The relationship the Spartans have with each other is exemplified nicely, the CGI and effects look great, new characters and such that tie in with classic plot, action scenes are epic when they happen to pop in, Halsey's character is played well by her actor.
I believe this was all setting it up for the next season which is going to be more action-packed I have a strong feeling... Sorta like how the recent Mortal Kombat film pretty much set everyone up for the second film to come, which will have much more of the action incorporated into the production.
100% and worth the watch if you enjoyed playing the Halo games or read some of books from long ago.
