Cloying, overly precious dialogue, annoying characters, and while the Motown soundtrack influenced foo many imitators, it seems distracting. Maybe it serves as a time capsule and I rewatched it 20 years later in the hopes that I was too young to get it, but nope-it doesn't hold up well.
