I waited in anticipation for another Gamache book from Penny having read all of her previous novels. However this one, The Grey Wolf, has to have been the most confusing of the lot. Too many characters and so many weird connections really required the book to have a good edit. Very confusing at times and therefore quite tedious reading. Not up to Penny's previous standards. Time to retire Gamache and focus in depth on the wonderful characters in Three Pines. Such a pity. The book demonstrates how a character can be "overdone". Time to move on in another direction Louise . . .

Before reading this book it is wise to read most of Eliot's well known works. They form the basis for the ensuing "exigeses" which result for this in-depth work. Not quite what I was expecting and not having read much of Eliot's work, it became somewhat of a tedious read. An academic text for any student analysing Eliot's work.
