So I open the book, the first essay is called “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Sounds familiar—the title of a song. It premiered in 1945 by Rogers and Hammerstein for the musical “Carousel.” This was the big band era and I was 16 and LOVED Frank Sinatra. We would listen to “The Rat Pack” (Frankie, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.) on the radio in those days. If I were to hear it today I could still sing the words. (Walk on through the wind walk on through the rain though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone, you’ll never walk alone).
Frankie was the first artist to take this song to the charts.
I also give “you’ll Never Walk Alone” 4 1/2 stars.
