The film is beautifully shot, richly detailed in its production, acted with nuance, and directed with skill. But it is also overly long and occasionally repetitive in its script and for much of time stingy with its emotion. Repressed feelings are in some measure the film's point, a theme Ishiguro has touched on in the past, but the screenplay unevenly plays some feelings by its principals openly, others not, without a guiding principle demonstrating why. Still, it is worth watching
