I wish I could rate this move -5 stars. Horrible, absolutely disgusting what Hollywood did to my beloved franchise. This sole movie has made me destain live-action adaptations of Japanese franchises. Every time I see an announcement for a live-action adaptation of a manga or anime I like, I roll my eyes because I'm reminded of this abomination. What were Shueisha thinking when they allowed 20th Century Fox to get their hands on my childhood?! In fact, this movie is partially reasonable for turning me into a subtitle-only viewer for my anime as well, especially for Dragon Ball. So I don't care what anyone says about Goku sounding like an old woman in Japanese, Masako Nozawa is my 1 and only Goku.
Back to this disgrace, here is how I believe the creation of this movie came to be. Some Hollywood bigwigs saw the rising popularity of anime and said "Let's make money off of the most popular one." They read a 1-page summary of the Kid Goku portion of Dragon Ball, and told the writers to turn Goku 18 years old and put him in high school. After that, they must've gotten their hands on some sort of narcotics (typical in Hollywood) and explored how they could 'Americanize' the story even more to appeal to a Western audience. Well, they did a terrible job. Akira Toriyama himself tried to provide some input, but they couldn't even be bothered to listen to the man. Why bother listening to some random Japanese man, who just so happened to create the story we are adapting on the big screen?!
If I could erase this movie from my memory, I would. Unfortunately like the rest of us, I have to live with the memory of this movie existing for the rest of my life, and I'll probably still remember this even in the afterlife while waiting for the Day of Judgement. That's how bad this movie was, where every once in a while, I'll just have a random thought to myself saying "Dang, Dragonball Evolution actually exists." They couldn't even be bothered to make Dragon Ball 2 words, the good-for-nothing money-grabbing fools.
The only good thing that ever came out of this abomination was that it played a part in the revival of Dragon Ball through Battle of Gods, which led to Resurrection F and eventually Super. Other than that, this movie was better off never being made.
