What a sequel! Director Denis Villeneuve is a favorite of mine, ever since Sicario. From the opening alone, I was riveted, not just by the visual style which reflected a quiet, beautiful melancholy, but by the direction that the story chose to move in. The Replicants are no longer just violent, unhinged, children trying to avoid death, now, in Villeneuve's film, they are evolving, more concerned with trying to fit into a society that despises them and trying to gain their own independence. If you don't know anything about BLADE RUNNER, see the original and then immediately follow it with this film. Serious sci fi awesomeness!
