As a man in his 50s who has lived all of Batman from comics to after-school TV and all the movies, and who has experienced all of Star Wars, from Jedi figurines to video games, and every second of every flick, I can confidently say that "Joker" was as good of a story as "Rogue One" and that the acting was fantastically superior. (Joaquin Phoenix gives us a 5-Star, Award-Bound performance.)
That said, the social commentary was palpable, and somewhat frightening, as the suspension of reality came crashing down... that mentally ill individuals might actually take up the Arthur Fleck mantle (or have and are actively committing acts of riot-inciting mass violence).
Simply brilliant, amazing and deeply disturbing movie... For anyone in my generation who has lived thru all the iterations on these pop culture themes, this is a must-see movie!
