Patterson has no idea how to characterise or describe women if not through the lense of a man's attraction to them. These characters are weak and one-demesional, and Billy, our so-called hero, is shallow and boring. I got about halfway through before I gave up. I was so put-out by the poor writing, cliché dialogue, and dull characters that I didn't even care about the mystery. "The Black Book" is absolutely the last Patterson novel I will ever read.
