It's an unforgettable film. Not trying to be anything more than it was--romantic comedy/drama---it was brilliantly realized. The part was written for Cary Grant, or seemed to be, and Deborah Kerr could play any role and be excellent. The so-called chemistry of the romantic interest was as good as it gets. The production was done expertly, from the script to the sets, etc. We have to make exceptions for how 1950's Directors of Photography lighted everything, giving the interiors a bright, brittle look. They learned from European Directors eventually. In my opinion, "Affair" was one the best productions, all round, of the 1950's. Tom (I always cry at the end).

Perfect pitch. Impeccable timing, excellent writing. . .One of the finest examples of American sitcom production--a field strewn with garbage. MTM set a very high bar for the industry to strive for. Concerns of a bygone era I suppose. No matter, they were golden! Tom

Certainly one of the best combat films ever made. The British had a huge technical advantage with the Martini-Henry rifle. . .but they could not possibly have prevailed over the sheer numbers of Zulu if it wasn't for the iron discipline instilled in recruits from the minute they joined the army. The intensive drilling and more drilling under the sharp and wary eyes of hardened veterans, sergeants who have seen the elephant. This was the army of Wellington, Gordon, Kitchener, etc. . .the modern equivalent of the Roman Legions in terms of professionalism and the empire they established. The Battle of Rorke's Drift was a movie waiting to be made. The production was flawless in my opinion--one of my forever top ten. At number one, Lawrence of Arabia tied with Casablanca. Tom
