I hold Monster Hunter very dear to me.
I found MH3 discounted at gamestop for $10. 10 years later, I've played almost every installment since and I have put in over 800 hours into Monster Hunter World alone (yay, pandemic).
I too was confused by the trailer and why the series was taking a U.S. Military approach when you have an entire world of lore to play with.
However,
The movie wastes no time building this beautiful, brutal, and unforgiving universe and I realized that from the first scene. My blood boiled the first time I heard the Diablos screech it's deafening roar on the big screen.
I had fun! Watching the gristling carnage, terror, and power of both the monsters and hunters was such a treat as the film did head nod after head nod to the original series. It was a big, action-filled monster movie that reminded me why I enjoy these games.
There are flaws, and a long time gamer sees more than those who haven't bore the Hunter's Guild Crest upon their breast. Overall, it was a blockbuster monster movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat thinking how can these characters possibly survive...
Honestly, I want them to keep making more. There's more than fifteen games and thousands of hours of content to use. *And a special note to other hunters, yes, this movie is canon as of Dec. 2020. Go play the Artemis quest line...
