In my opinion, the best of the Strike books yet! I absolutely loved this and was gripped all the way through. I’ve just finished reading it on a family holiday and it honestly made my holiday - snuggling up with this book in my hotel room in Cornwall with a cup of tea and a biscuit while the rain hammered against the window and the sea crashed within my view - utter bliss! The cult story line was fascinating, at points truly terrifying and always totally absorbing. As with all J. K. Rowling’s books, I simply could not put it down and I enjoyed all the suspense-building followed by the breathtaking, spellbinding climaxes that she is so very good at. As dark as this story was, there was still the trademark humour and electric romantic/sexual chemistry between Robin and Strike that makes these books so incredibly compelling and comforting. Now that I’ve finished it I feel lost without it…once again, I can’t wait for the next one!

This show is incredible and I’m shocked that it doesn’t have a higher rating on here. It took me a few episodes to get into it and really invest in the world and characters (I find it always takes a while to familiarise yourself with and emotionally invest in a new fantasy ‘world’ as it can be overwhelming at first to get to grips with it all) but once I did I was absolutely hooked! The lead up to the ending was full of dramatic plot twists and turns and was in no way predictable. Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne were both outstanding in the lead roles and there were a whole host of other complex, fascinating and likeable characters. If you like fantasy and romance, this will be very much up your street. However, the whole thing also has a very dark, gritty and gothic feel which I wasn’t sure about at first but which I really grew to love. Honestly, this show really gets better and develops some great themes as it goes on so I’d recommend sticking with it for the first few episodes as it really picks up the pace and becomes electric as it reaches the finale. This helped to fill the gaping hole in my life that Game of Thrones left in its wake and I only wish there were more seasons to keep me occupied through lockdown!
