Possibly one of the worst shows I’ve watched…
I had just watching glowup season 3 on Netflix when I decided to try out “Next in fashion” seeing that the quality of its production seemed of a really high standard. However, the content of the show itself was disappointing to say the least. Unlike glowup, which was completely unbiased and started, from the get go, with an even playing field for all the contestants, next in fashion was completely unfair.
The first thing that seriously bothered me was the fact that the competitors came from completely different circumstances, leading to a really prejudice competition. For example one competitor came from a very underprivileged background saying she worked three jobs, had to care for her children and winning this competition would allow her to change her circumstances and pursue her dreams in the fashion industry. Another competitor owns his own brand, Ashton Michael, and has had the opportunity to dress A-LIST celebrities, like Post Malone. THEN WHY THE HELL ARE YOU COMPETING IN COMPETITION IF YOU’RE ALREADY IN THE INDUSTRY. When clearly other competitors really need this to get their grounding. I’m not saying that the woman deserved to win, what I am saying is that if you’re going to make a competition at least insure the competitor come from similar situations. Either everyone should be designers who already own their own company and dress celebrities or everyone must come from backgrounds where they’ve had little exposure to the industry and are using this competition as their initial breakthrough. (Like in glowup, all the makeup artists came from similar situations: working at makeup counters, doing makeup on the side etc. They didn’t suddenly have one makeup artist sit there who was doing makeup for Rihanna and Beyoncé the day before they competed!!)
To add fuel to the fire this poor woman was paired with another designer who she’d never worked with and had clashing tastes with. On that note !!!SPOILER!!! All the pairs that were eliminated first were the pairs who didn’t know each other or had little to no experience working together THUS putting them at a massive disadvantage compared to those running businesses together or who were partners etc.
Either make the competition:
- individual
- completely random pairs (no one knows each other)
- pairs who have worked together in the past
And finally Netflix better change their hosts If they want to produce a second season. Not only was the drama completely unnecessary and immature but I found both the hosts completely intolerable. They clearly had very poor fashion knowledge since their points were ridiculous most of the time, they were constantly meddling and honestly they were downright rude. Asking the two Asian ladies if they were “only just friends” after working together for five years, BUZZ OFF!!! ITS NON OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT THEY ARE OR ARENT!!!
Prying with the woman (who was clearly struggling and started from the lowest base out of anyone there) who got eliminated in the first episode whether “she felt if she need the money more than her partner” (which she clearly did) right before kicking her off!!
It’s all of SUCH bad taste…
And I’m not even going to comment on the theatrics, since that speaks for itself.
I can’t even bring myself to finishing the show, if I do, I’ll probably just skip to the end of each episode to see the designs since the internal “drama” is a complete waste of time and a cause for an unnecessary loss of brain cells when watching them…
