Hunting the Wren is a 13th century romantic adventure, delving into the traditions, folklore and belief in magic of the Medieval era. And there is more than a touch of astrology winding its way through it too. An enjoyable read.

It tries to explore moral and political questions within a cosy local microcosm. But the lightness of touch of the first half is spoiled when it descends into hysteria and melodrama. Absolutely all of the characters are so awful that the reader loses interest in the outcomes for any of them. I thought it clunky and ham fisted.
