A bloated mess of a narrative. The basic idea is clean and simple but has aged poorly due to it's cold war undertones. The American Jarhead tripe could be completely avoided and it would still have the same basic movie. For it's time it would have been visually impressive however with the low resolution imagery and disconnect with 30 year old technology this movie can be totally missed. The extended cut is not worth the time clocking in just under 3 hours. I found myself picking it apart instead of enjoying it for what it was.
