This may be a controversial opinion. I did not like The Hate U Gave. This book was very annoying to read. However the topic is very important to modern day racisms and can be some what true to real life in sensitivity. I am addressing these annoyances on how this book was written, not by the profiling.
(Spoilers) Reasons why: The main character acted like she was the main character in a horror movie, meaning she made the wrong choices almost every time, such as being friends with racist people or going to a party even though she didn't want to. Others are weird details that are never used again, like the sneakers. She goes on and on about shoes the first few chapters and never uses that detailed skill ever again in the story. Lastly, she's soo passive. The world around her is placing her in situations, she doesn't have any decisions or acts that she makes herself, she's just pulled through the conflicts. Theirs no character to her what so ever. The only decisions was in the last moment of the story where she agrees to do the speech and even that seemed force.
