This is going to sound ironic
Samurai Jack is my all time favorite show by Cartoon Network (With PPG being my other favorite.) The Ironic part is that back when this show aired, I barely even watched it; I'm not sure why but its most probably my limited attention span or the fact that they are a lot of slow and silent moments in this show which is clearly there to stretch out the 22 minute mark.
And I have to be honest, this type of pacing may turn off some casual viewers (especially children who preferred fast paced, colorful action). I was one of those people and the show became nothing but a distant memory of years to come.
That is until VERY recently, I have decided to re-watched all of the old shows I used to watch for old times sake; Including pre-2010 CN shows. And I have to say, out of all of the shows, This and I MEAN THIS SHOW stood above the rest.
The Animation and Art style is amazing, simple water colored backgrounds with colors infused by Eastern culture, Sci-Fi and the works of Osamu Tezuka. The Action is very fast paced and all in all just fun to watch. Some episodes will go over the top with its animation, like Season 3 Episode 9 Jack and The Haunted House and Season 4 Episode 14 Jack vs The Ninja.
The Characters in this show can be a mix between Likable and Memorable
Jack, the main character is just your Everyman with a strong sense of honor and Justice; what really shines on him is his sheer determination and Willpower to keep moving forward and never back down. Trust me when you see this guy in action, you WILL root for him to the very end.
Aku, The main bad guy is the most Likable and memorable villain, he is portrayed as an actual threat while also being cheeky and irritable in an amusing way.
There are also others like The Loud and Proud Scotsman and the soul collector Demongo with his high rapsy voice.
Every episode of the show never felt like a rehash in one way or a another. Of Course there are some weak and average episodes that can be skipped. But all in all the show can pretty much do anything with this one character and it never felt boring.
In conclusion, Samurai Jack is a great show that I have to admit it cannot be enjoyed by everyone (You can literally fall asleep while watching it) but hey, I guarantee that you'll have a blast watching every second of it.
( As I am writing this I have yet to watched the 5th season but from what I heard its enjoyable. )
