Wasn’t it a Mark Twain book that said “Don’t use so much kindling getting your fire started”? I’ve read many Koontz books over the years and have come to the conclusion that he’s never met a sentence that he can’t turn into a chapter. The book has a great storyline and likable characters but there’s just too much diatribe. Rehashing the same inner conflicts over and over again wore me out. It could have been a great short story or a great novel if more meat was there. A lot was left unanswered, which is disappointing, but if there’s a sequel I doubt I’ll read it.
