This is one of Spielberg’s finest films. It’s beautifully cast and deeply haunting. Eric Bana absolutely shines as Avner… he’s a gifted and multifaceted actor. What a powerful and wonderfully shot film. An easy 5 stars.

Underrated epic film. It’s brilliantly made and beautifully shot and the actors are excellent - ESPECIALLY Eric Bana who shines brighter than all the others…his portrayal of Hector is superb and he’s the best role in this film. Bana is a real talent and fabulous character actor. He embodies Hector perfectly. Orlando Bloom looks the part of Paris.. but he is predictably lacking in emotional range and skill. Diane Kruger, too. Overall the battles are suspenseful and the intimate scenes are emotive. This film deserved so much better!

Do yourself a favour and peruse the 1 star reviews of this hilarious movie after seeing it! Each and every one of them is cringe-worthy. Because the script of this movie is fabulous: it gloriously exploits the pretentiousness of the victims whilst nailing the terrifying yet hilarious psychotic break of its myopic male protagonist (masterfully played by Feinnes). Enjoy!

Original and suspenseful! Pity about the ending being quite unsatisfactory.

Mediocre at its best. Bloody awful at its worst. Poorly written, badly paced and burdened with shallow characterisation.

Awful. Lacks atmosphere, tension and even a fraction of the presence of the Angelica Huston movie interpretation. Avoid.
