It's a gritty superhero TV show that drapes itself in irreverence.
I watched Suicide Squad 2 and you can see James Gunn's style clear as day. The dialogue attempts to get as far away from cliche of the genre, and that can produce some funny moments, but when it's every exchange it becomes a bit tedious and lacks any real wit or subtltly.
I'm not a fan of his approach to gore either. Again, he has some nice ideas, but it's the repetition of these ideas at every juncture that leaves me thinking 'enough'. Sometimes less is more, but that's clearly not his MO.
The plot, so far as I can see it (I'm six episodes deep) is incredibly similar to the Suicide Squad film he directed. I don't think I'll finish this season just because I feel like the episodes are too predictable.
