I have never written a review for a movie before, but something about this one compelled me. I may be accused of getting too emotional, but I was crying for about 80% of this film. When it was sad it was Devastating, the longing for her mother was so apparent, and I absolutely loved the small tie-ins to Chinese culture, family, and mythology. Not everything has to be a serious documentary to bring representation into the public eye- and this was such a joy to watch. Yes it may have been a little predictable, but the way it all played out was beautiful and heartfelt all the same. The screenwriter of this film who passed away due to cancer said she wrote this as a love letter to her husband and child for after she's gone- and it shows. (And contrary to many others- I actually LOVED the glorious pop diva take on Chang'e! As well as the colorful Lunaria landscape!)
