I must admit I'm disappointed, good graphics, good acting but why oh why did the guy have to deviate from one of my favourite books so much? I have waited years for someone to create a good adaptation after suffering 2 dreadful American cinema efforts and thought at least he's set it in the correct country and time period, but I feel so let down. It misses all the points that HG Wells wrote into the story, the frailty of religion (on meeting the Vicar), the Martians treating us like we treated so many peoples in our Empire heyday etc. I've just read the book again and it's so atmospheric filled with tension and suspense, this guy has reduced it to an almost trashy earth v aliens film. If you've never read the book you will think it's a great sci-fi film, read the book and discover a pioneering work of fiction.
