Well, some of these comments about the character Hazel's demeanor being unacceptable are ridiculous. It was a sitcom. She wasn't an upper crust maid and it was a COMEDY. It was supposed to be offbeat and outrageous. They were a well off middle class family since George was an attorney. Most of the characters in the show were from various stratas of society but I never got the impression the main characters were that high in the instep. Hazel lacked a certain level of refinement but she was more a family member than a servant, as she had a long history with Dorothy's family. Hazel lacked formal education but she was intelligent in her own right and was described as an excellent cook and very proficient in many other areas of endeavor. I have watched this show repeatedly and still find it alot of fun. It's never nasty or overtly sexual as some shows can be. I can watch it and walk away smiling without cringing about the language or content. It had good moral messages as well.
