The movie depicts struggle love. This wasn’t love at all. The movie feeds off of the current narrative of our hookup culture and online dating app usage. The mere fact she replied to him days later only because she didn’t want to be lonely plays into the narratives that women use men for free meals on dates. She threw her life away by getting stuck with this Dusty! The use of camera and how they played out the story was cool, but that struggle love is not cool with me. In many movies portraying black people as slaves, this movie portrays as slave to the system. Can we have movies that don’t oppress black people? Can we get movies that are more toned back from the struggle?
