Don Cherry was one of the classiest people that I ever met. I remember when I was young I worked at the Memorial Center in Peterborough. I was just one of the rink rats that cleaned up after the hockey games . One December we were having a staff christmas party and one of the guys was a mentally challenged young guy who I think brought the Petes towels home and his Mom would wash them. Im sure the Petes could afford to have them washed in house or by a third party but they chose to have this young guy help out. Which meant the world to him. Anyways Don was in town probably to check out a game and he chose to take a few minutes to drop into our back room to wish us a merry christmas. It meant the world to us and especially the young guy that washed the towels. You can imagine a back room down where they kept the Zamboni and Don Cherry shows up. As it turned out the mentally challenged young guy had to go home and Don said that there was no way he was walking home by himself and proceeded to take him home in his car. That's how classy Don is.
