This is one of the best fiction books I have ever read. The author has a great way of making her characters seem real. For example, I love the way she described Waylon's rough but yet gentle voice. I loved the way he said to Alexander;" Yes Sir, Buddy, the ducks are waiting for their breakfast." I felt that I was an invisible participant when Kate and Waylon were taking Alexander to the pond to feed the ducks. I also enjoyed her description of Jonah. I visualize this little boy with his head of blond curls falling over his intense brown eyes. He is i little ball of vibrant energy. I love this bold and brash six - year- old.
I wish Jayne would publish a sequel to "Mother Kind". In conclusion another factor that I liked was that I grew up on Pill Hill. I wonder if, Kate's marriage to Matt survived after Katherine died.
