I get the symbolism of the movie, but this is probably an issue with trying to be true to the writing (though of course they are taking liberties) and trying to make a film that can connect the dots.
So I think as a meditation on the writings it was based on - a good adaptation. As a movie with a cohesive glue that connects scenes...it felt disjointed.
I don't think that's the idea of the historical writings, just a consequence of the time and medium. So I'd like perhaps to see a director's cut where perhaps some of that connectivity WAS included to make it a more enjoyable *film* experience.
I will definitely watch again for the symbolism tho - I think the source material, and some of the detail in the film, bears a rewatch or two.
