While this film provides laughs abound and plenty of gratuitous violence, it romps around for far too long without achieving all that much at all. Visually very attractive but rehashing Deadshot's story into Bloodsport was bland and felt like a waste of Idris Elba's talents. The Thinker is turned into a 1 dimensional almost pointless character (again waste of a good character and actor,) and don't even mention "King Shark" being whittled down to a shark version of Groot. Waller's stone cold facade is also ruined by background jokes at her expense making her far less sinister than we saw in the 2016 version.
While some scenes will have you laughing and some have heartfelt moments, the combination feels lack luster and repetitive as we have come to expect it all from large team hero movies with several cast members moving from Gunn's other Marvel work to this.
Overall it sits on par with the first suffering the same amount of problems as the Ayer version but it cleverly hides then behind and endless stream of Marvel styled jokes and competitive one up manship that we have come to expect from Gunn's work. Good but by no means "the best DC film in decades."
