I'm an old school COD player. Gave up on the franchise when everyone started flying around with exo suits in Advanced Warfare. Nothing they released since made me want to play again. When I heard there was going to be a new Modern Warfare, I was pumped. This would mean I would have to buy a PS4 since I stopped playing while games were still on PS3. But if the game was anything like MW1, 2 or 3, it should be a worth it. I waited until a month after the game was released before taking the plunge. I had hoped all of the problems I had heard regarding footsteps, camping, time to kill, and the mini-map would have been addressed by then. I was still looking forward to the campaign however so even if the multiplayer was so-so, at least the campaign should be worth the investment.
CAMPAIGN
I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with the campaign. It was confusing, hard to follow, the story wasn't all that gripping and with all the talk of how controversial it was going to be, I was left wondering if I had missed something. Nothing happened that was even close to the 'No Russian' mission in MW2. The graphics were phenomenal, the audio was great and the cut scenes were amazing. But overall, I was left wondering why they bothered. There was also no tutorial mission so new players could learn the controls or COD veteran's can learn new features. It was also too quick in my opinion. I felt like it could have been a couple of hours longer. Not impressed.
MULTIPLAYER
What the hell were/are they thinking?! The game is completely designed for camping. The maps are too big. There are no red dots on the mini map. The compass is a waste. There are too many buildings. The time to kill is way too fast. The footsteps are deafening. Dead silence isn't a perk. SBMM is definitely in the game. The guns aren't balanced. The spawns are atrocious. The killstreaks are lackluster. The lobbies break up after every match. I can go on and on. It's just a mess through and through. Everything in the way the game was designed causes players to play slow. Most games end because the time limit is reached. How sad is that? What few positives there are do nothing to make the game playable or satisfying. Ground war sounds like a good change of pace, but everyone either camps with a sniper rifle or hops in a tank. Gunfight is fun but gets old rather quickly, especially if people keep backing out, leaving you with a 2 vs 1. Again, graphics are great. Audio is great. Movement is quite good. Gunsmith is great. Not much else though.
OVERALL
Calling this game a disappointment would be a massive understatement. They need to make significant changes for multiplayer to survive. I have heard that Activision has already sent out a survey to players who have stopped playing asking what it would take for them to pick the game back up again. That's pathetic. A month in and people are already abandoning the game? And what makes it more pathetic is that they have to ask what is wrong? The problems are obvious! Everyone is complaining about the same things, most of which, are easy fixes! This game needs a massive overhaul or it is doomed to be one of the worst COD games ever. Which, considering the hype, is astonishing.
