Cursed with beauty and talent, the lead character simply could not overcome his inner demon to blossom into an artist. Inner demon and lack of discipline blinded his ambition. Self pity and lack of courage killed his potential as human being. It is okay to fail, but it is not okay to stay down and not get up. In that sense, he did fail as a human being.
