Let me preface by saying I've personally never read the books. However, I am a HUGE fan of historical romance dramas and have seen probably all of the other movies/shows that are even remotely similar to this. I personally think Dakota Johnson is wonderful in this film. I can't truly compare her to the Anne Elliot in the books, but I think in this film she portrays a very tender character that makes you just fall in love with her. The way she speaks, the tone of her voice, her gaze, it's all honestly so wonderful. I had never seen her in anything else other than Fifty Shades of Grey and I didn't like her much there, but this completely changed my mind about her. I love her portrayal of this character. HOWEVER. The chemistry between her and Joris could not be any more lacking. It was awful to watch because I wanted so badly I feel their love story but instead I wanted to fast forward their scenes together because I just wasn't feeling anything. I don't think this is Dakota Johnson's fault though, and more on account of Joris. I found his portrayal of the character to be very very lackluster, to say the least. Which is such a disappointment. I don't have much to say about the other characters but I do love seeing Henry Golding in films. He is absolutely so handsome and a fantastic actor as well. He is so incredible charming, and plays his devious manipulative character absolutely perfect. Hands down the best actor in this film.

This show was one of my favourites until episode 7. So close.. I absolutely DESPISE the relationship (I refuse to call it a romance( between Lan and Nynaeve. Firstly, I really find it impossible to like Nynaeve's character. She is distrustful, selfish, disrespectful, and neverendingly bitchy and whiny. While I understand characters are meant to be flawed, it is impossible to relate to her in any way and her constant whining (especially about Lan and Moiraine's bond) makes me want to rip my god damn hair out. Seriously. The fact that the writers would have them go as far as hooking up in episode 7 made me so angry. I'm not opposed to this romance as a concept, but the way it happened throughout the first 6 episodes did not make me happy at all. The relationship felt random, and ill-matched. They do not seem compatible in any way, nor is there any chemistry whatsoever. It COMPLETELY RUINED this show for me which is so sad and frustrating. Lan was my favourite character and to him be paired up with Nynaeve makes me hate this show. I was really excited for Season 2 but now I don't think I can bare to continue watching this horrible plotline. I'm truly so disappointed.

It wasn’t great. Yes, there have been worse movies but there were so many plot holes and so much of it was just so absurd. I agree with other reviewers that the suspense build up was pretty mediocre, and the plot felt so shallow. Fox is also not a great actress so that didn’t help. Someone else mentioned how it didn’t make sense that she was able to put on the button up while being chained and I agree! That makes no sense, it’s almost comedic. And the antagonist could’ve easily just cut off the hand of the husband that he was chained to in the end so that he wouldn’t have to drag around that body. A lot of the plot just lacks common sense, you constantly find yourself being frustrated with the characters and facepalming because they’re just so stupid. You almost don’t even want the protagonist to win in the end.
