The history of America is not as great as the books try to make it seem. This adaptation of the famous case of The Central Park Five highlights the life of discrimination, exposes the crooked justice/ legal system, and the brutal truth of living life inside and after be incarcerated. It was shameful to see several innocent young black men be accused and ultimately bare the actions of another man’s crime and to see the methods used to attain a false statement to find the perpetrator(s) was intense and hard to watch. The short four-episode series followed each member one by one, showing the damage emotionally and physically to both the accused and their families. This film has rose anger, confusion, guilt, and emotional distress, all while being portrayed by a very talented cast. It’s shameful to know that this case isn’t known in my town. After watching the film, several colleagues of mine were told about The Central Park Five, and to my surprise, that was their first time hearing about the case. In recents years, I have had the privilege of educating my class about this case and upon seeing a real life adaptation, opened the eyes of many viewers including my own. Bravery, standing up, family, guilt, innocence and hope, were all common themes throughout the four episodes, but what really caught my attention, as just how inspirational these men are. There’s always beauty even in the most ugliest of acts, that’s what their story had taught me. This series educates the viewers about the injustice for minorities and the struggles they bare on a day day bases. Truly a heart-breaking adaptation of the real events, definitely in for a roller coaster of emotions. 10/10
