This game came out in a time where people still printed or wrote down directions to get to places. So those complaining about no fast travel..c'mon. To us, it was close to true life in that aspect. Nothing was instant. The world outside of city walls were dangerous and you could get lost. And being a country boy who has done that a few times, that was also true to life.
you became better at jumping, because you jumped.
Better at punching because you punched.
Better at running, because you ran.
And also..you could fly. Possible with or without a cheatcode...though the cheat code made it safer.
EVERYONE can die. Important to the story or not.
Your actions can have dire consequences in that regard.
Playing Morrowind really was like diving into a fantasy world and believing in it.
For me, I didn't play it until like 2004. Had already graduated Marine bootcamp. Roommate was playing. By that time, I'd played some good rpgs through multiple systems. but besides Final Fantasy 7, Blood Omen, and Soul Reaver, nothing really stood out. I've played many...but it was all the same. whether it was first person, text, or jrpgs.
Morrowind sucked me in.
Played every Scrolls games afterwards, as well as diving into the Fallout series...but nothing pulled me in like Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.
I can still go back and play it today and fully enjoy it.
For a while I thought I'd like Skyrim that much..but I actually got tired of that. And Oblivion got a little too awkward with the gates. They're annoying to me. Not entertaining. But that's me.
Would be crazy if they updated Morrowind officially.
Bigger place all around. More inhabitants inside the walls.
