The entire series was fabulous. Brilliant acting, special effects, writing. Everything you could possibly want in a show was all here, throughout every season. I know people were disappointed with season 7, and especially season 8, but I personally didn't see the problem. Just don't go into the show with a bias against the last season, due to the media stomping on it with excessive hate and disappointment. The eighth season was FINE.
I think the reason that so many people were disappointed, was because it was almost a trend... "hating the last season of Game of Thrones", you could call it. Obviously, some people would strongly disagree with this point of view. These people, were the ones who very vocally expressed their opinions about every minor flaw that may have been in the last season. Spoiler alert: there were plot holes and contingency flaws throughout the entire series. Why? Because it's a TV show. That's the nature of television.
Because the last season marked the ending of a great show, people wanted it to be perfect. They wanted it to be without flaw. A show without error, is a show that I'm yet to see. But because this is a such a popular series, so many fans decided to jump on the bandwagon of "hating the last season". I can see some of their complaints. Allow me to address what I feel is number one.
SPOILERS WILL BE AHEAD
Before I begin, it was rushed. Yes, it was. I don't know why HBO decided to include only six episodes. Personally, I thought that this made it exciting, though I can see why some people wouldn't want non stop action in a show like this. I'm sure you can make up your own mind for this.
Daenerys "Mad Queen" twist. People said that it came out of nowhere. They said that there was no foreshadowing, and that Game of Thrones ruined a fan favorite character. This is FALSE. Daenerys was always a good queen. A just queen. Though she was never exactly a beacon of decency across the seven kingdoms. She executed her enemies, she burned traitors alive, she used a mixture of love AND fear to keep her people in line. She was no Disney princess; I thought that was clear to the fans of this show. Apparently not. The appeal of Game of Thrones, is that the characters are morally gray. She wanted the seven kingdoms. No matter the cost. She was used to being loved... and then she drops everything. Her goals, her desires, to help save the land from the White Walkers. And when she gets there, no one wants her. No one cares about her. They only want to admire Jon Snow, the one she loves. The one who is also revealed, to have a stronger claim to the Iron Throne than she does. Something like this was always bound to affect someone as determined as Daenerys. And then, she plays a crucial role in defeating the Night King. Yet still, the people only want to love Jon. Jorah, her long time friend and protector, died fighting for her. Jon, as far as she is concerned, has betrayed her, along with Tyrion and Varys, some of her most trusted advisers. And then, her child is murdered at the hands of her enemy, who later beheads her best friend in front of her. By now, she is fueled with relentless rage. There is nothing inside of her for the next few days, except for fury, envy and hatred. And when the time came to take what was her's, she took it. She took the fastest, most vengeful path to defeating her enemy. And don't forget, what she did, would have been a normal attack on a city (minus the dragons) during the Middle Ages. When the bells rang, it was time to finish. But now, Daenerys simply did not have it in her to stop. She decided to burn the city to the ground, for she had been pushed over the edge. She sacrificed everything to help the people in the North. For it, she received no love. Her two closest friends died. Her advisers betrayed her, her lover as well. She was filled with rage. And she chose to kill. This was not the first time she chose to kill, in order to get what she wanted. I don't know why some people say that it was.
