Amazing, brilliant books. I read Stella Maris first and then the Passenger. A bit confusing at times. Alicia Western believes her brother is dead and is consumed with grief, but in The Passenger, Bobby knows his sister committed suicide and is consumed with grief and guilt because he could not save her. Perhaps McCarthy wanted this confusing narrative as part of the overall structure. Almost surreal at times and allows McCarthy to fully expand his quite profound literary genius. Without constraints or limitations. He runs the gamut of literary and philosophical ideas: I.E. mathematics, the American Deep State with its persecutions of U.S. citizens and metaphysical entities ( real or imaginary is left for the reader to decide) car racing, Deep sea diving, love of nature and animals and of course the implications of global annihilation with nuclear weapons. Their father was a scientist who worked with Oppenheimer at the Los Alamos program. Dire implications for humanity.
