The movie came to an end.
It showed a black screen.
My eyes were glued to it.
My hands weren't moving.
White letters faded in.
It read The King.
Yes, I'm talking about the Netflix's latest medieval epic and how i felt like an evicted tenant, when the credits started rolling. Adapted from Shakespeare's Henry IV and V, The King is a movie of such astounding scope and sweep with extremely compelling dark visual settings, incredible acting and a heavenly score.
Timothee Chalamet's performance seemed like he was actually raised in the Monmouth castle. Such solid and regal performance from him. His boisterous wingman Falstiff with his rueful sangfroid and profound lines is another one of the best written characters in the movie, brought to life by the superb acting of Edgerton, who also co-wrote the screenplay of this movie. As for the character Catherine of Valois, skilfully rendered by Lily Rose Depp, I, like Michod, was knocked over by just how poised and still and powerful she is in the movie and found it rather disappointing that none of the major critics have given her the appreciation that she rightly deserves. Then there is this character who is a masterclass in gallic bitchery, The Dauphin of France, pulled off quite magnificently by Pattinson aided by his wild french accent. His way of execution brings high hopes for the upcoming Batman movie.
Each of the Arkapaw's shots, mostly in natural lighting has been perfectly planned and executed, resulting in quite a brilliant and sumptuous cinematography. As of the scores, I still have my doubts that it was composed by Lucifer himself, before being banished from heaven. Michod successfully demythologized the Battle of Agincourt and made it phenomenal and it will definitely serve as an aspirin for all the disappointed GOT fans out there. The set designs and costumes are also fantastic, notably those silver helmets. This movie may not be for Shakespeare purists, but for any movie buff out there, even if you are a guy or a gal who typically finds a historical drama boring, it would definitely make you feel like you've been dined in the exalted halls of some godly realms.
