I think it's an anti space film, ultimately asking why do we want to go into space. It seems to be looking at the destruction wrought by human kind, the crazy competition we have with each other, for heroism, discovery, invention etc highlighting the insanity of yearning to be more than we are, and to miss what is right infront of us. A beautiful jewel of a planet, needing some TLC.
