Bollywood mainstream has for way too long now has become a dull and drab affair. Thanks to accessibility on streaming services, every other movie on my watchlist is a regional one. Super Deluxe was by far one of my best Tamil movie experience ever! Ever since it released on Netflix, heard about it quite a lot and was in my watchlist for sometime. 3 hrs were daunting everytime I thought about watching it. But boy o boy! Once I started it this weekend, was riveted to my couch for the entire duration. A complex, multilayered movie of this caliber is rarely seen in Indian cinema. The 4 parallel storylines with their complex characters were merged beautifully. All the basic ingredients of a complete movie were in ample quantities. Was laughing to tears at the bomb soliloquy by Mugil (Guess it was clever subtitling to message it in Star Wars lingo 😂) , and was choked to core with the gut wrenching scenes of Shilpa. Was philosophical and thought provoking in equal measures without being preachy. Though some of the original pop culture reference or messaging might be lost in translation due to subtitles, did not have any lesser expirience. Technical aspects, asthtics, production and of course acting were almost flawless. Also special mention to the Star Wars theme with nadaswaram and thavil musical instruments during a most unexpected scene! 5/5 for this brilliant work of art! 😊
