This documentary was not what I was expecting. It was badly done, all over the place, full of misinformation, lacking of a lot of information (there was so much left out). If they wanted to actually instruct people who aren't familiarized with Manga/Anime they did a terrible job. The history of Anime/manga, the first's plus the top Anime of all time was left behind there was basically little history about the topic. It was very sad to see a documentary that felt so empty and bland. The lady making the documentary was very cringy as well and her lack of understanding of the topic was actually more annoying than what she was trying to portray, "as someone" who was looking to understand, master, find and learn the true meaning of what Anime/manga is and the history of why it was created. It looked super staged and non-intellectual followed by so much misinformation on the topic, that it ended up been shameful. The only parts that were actually worth watching was: the amazing work from the cameraman/woman and the beautiful scenery that was capture around Tokyo, the wonderful places around Harajuku and Yoyogi Park and the restaurants, cafes and Karaoke that were filmed, the interviews with all the producers who appeared in the documentary, Toei animation studios and their hardcore fan and absolutely seeing some of the voice actors/actresses was neat. The best part was the lovely appereance by Takagashi Yoko-san! and her interview. As an Otaku and faithful Anime fan/enthusiast for years, I preferred not to even give a one star rating to this documentary. It just made my blood boil. I can assure that you don't have to go and watch a few Anime to then fly to Japan immediately for understanding the world of Anime or Manga; you go to Japan after you have immersed yourself completely into the Otaku and scholar lifestyles. Only then you will fully understand the worlds of Manga and Anime along with the Japanese culture, language and society because both go hand in hand. It must be loved first, to fully comprehend it. Giving this documentary a one star rating, to leave a review is too much, there should be the option of not rating this at all, it was non-sensical and irrelevant.
