I have a strong feeling that playing this game when it first came out would have been amazing and probably would of warranted a five stars. However, as someone who is playing it for the first time in 2021, I can say for certain it definitely has not aged well. From what I know, I am roughly two thirds of the way through and although I have not disliked it, I do not feel overly motivated to continue. The combat is too clunky and graphics too bad and it just makes it a bit of a slog to get through. Another thing is the difficulty, which I was forced to lower drastically to be able to make progress, although I did make it harder as I went. Also, the persuasion sucks and I hate how it always boils down to you paying a large sum of gold to get things done. Despite the negatives, there are some positives. The story is really interesting and good, much better than Oblivion and although I have not played it, I am pretty sure it would beat Skyrim’s story from what I have read and heard. Also, the environments are really interesting, and I wish I could see them in updated graphics. I am sure this was a great game once, but it isn’t now. Overall, I think this game needs a remaster. If they could just improve the graphics and combat alone then I think it would be way more enjoyable. UPDATE: I finished it. The ending was severely underwhelming. I understand they were restricted by the technology at the time but man is it a let down. Honestly, the whole campaign I was just waiting fort he final mission. It was tedious overall. I understand this game is good for its time and could be really good should they remaster it. That being said, I think it’s time people just forget about this game. It’s obsolete and although there is some stuff to learn, marvelling over it as if it is better than Skyrim is just nonsensical.

Look, I played most of the original Campaign when it came out. Sure I had to quit on the last level, but I got most of the game done. This game…. Is terrible. If you are going into solely because you like the original Minecraft game, you are going to be disappointed. Firstly, there is a story, which is something that just done not work for me when the whole point of Minecraft is to creat your own story in this mysterious world. That being said, the story is very lazily written and uninteresting. As for the gameplay, it is also poorly made. The fact that you have to locate vendors and free them during your missions is ridiculous, and I often found myself replaying missions because I forgot about it. The actual combat is decent, and can be quite fun, unless you are being overwhelmed by a tonne of enemies (which happens often). Now… for the worst part of this game: the death mechanics. So, for each level, you have a certain number of lives, and if you lose these lives, you have to restart the entire thing again! A very unfair system if you ask me. Very disappointing game.

What is this game? I don’t know, and I don’t think heaps of people do. Even after playing it, I still do not. This game…. Is a puzzle game? A problem solving game? That is the closest I can get. The main complications that you have to solve are puzzles of sorts… but they are always incredibly boring. The main story is uninteresting and really unemotional, especially when it tries to be. That being said, it does have some interesting sub plots. It also gets quite dark towards the end, which serves as a fresh turn of events, although it is ruined by some terrible gameplay that involves you hiding from very un-scary robots. People say the soundtrack is good- cannot even remember a single bit of it. The visuals are good, the atmosphere also well made (when on the moon). Besides that, a very unsatisfactory experience that I forgot about straight away, until I came here for a review.

Do not play this game, especially if you have nobody to play with. I am ashamed to admit that I became addicted to this game for a few months. I was very close (three ranks in the Order of Souls) to getting Pirate Legend when I stopped. For a long time I was in the group of players that considered people who whinged about getting their loot taken sooks and babies. Even though I could not fight another player to save myself, I still thought that. And yet, I eventually saw the truth: Sea of Thieves is a complete and utter waste of time, ESPECIALLY for solo players. The map takes ages to travel across, the quests are boring, and you can lose hours upon hours of progress (aka boring time wasted) not because of your own error, but because some jerk will just take it from you. This game and it’s community are so toxic that when you find a nice player it is like a miracle, a gift from so higher being. That being said, this game does have some good parts. The recent POTC crossover was fun and well made. Too bad the good parts are ruined by fundamental flaws, such as slow travel time, losing hours of progress, when you do not lose progress the reward is NEVER enough, and the progression, which is non existent. Cosmetics are the only reward for anything besides gold, which is just used to buy more cosmetics. You could say that if you had better weapons and advantages for your crew then it would be unfair for new players, and you would be…. absolutely correct. And that is why this game can fundamentally not work. Stuff this game.

So I know I am like a decade late to the party…. But i have some stuff to say about this game. It is great, and still holds up really well to this day. The NPCs behaviour and dialogue are terrible, sure, but we’re impressive for the time. Graphics are still decent, a lot better than Morrowind, the story is very cliche but enjoyable non the less, especially with people like Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean showing up. The biggest complaint I have is the difficulty. Definitely turn it down by just a few notches, as it can be very challenging for new players. It also is kind of vague about when you are meant to interact with the world outside of the main story. Besides that though, great game.

Very disappointing. I am giving it 3 stars but compared to the original it’s like one or even a half star. The story is boring, uninteresting, and unsatisfactory. The use of interaction with other sentient beings completely destroys the original game’s focus on loneliness and isolation, which is one of the main things that made it special. The characters, particularly AL-AN are not relatable and I found it hard to empathise with them. There is barely any mystery, and the stuff that is there is far from interesting. Then we got gameplay. The seatruck sucks and the Cyclops was WAY better. I never felt really scared or terrified like I did in the last one, probably because of the really lame designs of the leviathans. The land segments SUCK. They are hard to navigate and the scenery is dull. The ice worm leviathan and Snowfox vehicles are both completely broken and their mechanics are downright ridiculous. Overall a very mediocre experience, and an abysmal one compared to the original game.
