VERY MEDIOCRE GAME!
Just Cause 4 has you playing again as the one and only Rico Rodriguez. This time you play in a beautiful fictional South-American country called Solis.
The main villain in JC 4 is Oscar Espinosa. Not much is said about Oscar which really upset me. I know that the Just Cause games have never really been strong on the story side, but the main villain only appears in TWO MISSIONS DURING THE ENTIRE GAME. There are no memorable or cool characteristics that he has. He is just a bland, boring and an oh-so forgettable character dare I say villain.
During Just Cause 4 you have to fight and defeat Oscar’s private army called the ‘Black Hand’. Out of all the Just Cause games the Black Hand is easily the hardest enemy Rico has to face. They acquire special technology that allows the enemies to became invisible, carry bulletproof shields and bulletproof armour. The open world of Solis is beautiful to look at, but can feel empty and dead at times. Some new grappling hook enhancements switch the gameplay up, which is great. Guns feel more punchy and heavy but explosions feel less responsive and glorious than in the previous Just Cause games.
Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed with this entry. It is by no means a bad game, but the lack of interesting characters, a memorable villain and less responsive gameplay does hurt the game’s reputation. With the new addition of tornadoes, sandstorms, thunderstorms and blizzards you would think that it would make the game better, but it simply doesn’t. The sandstorms in Mad Max look so much better than in this game. The storms just don’t look impressive at all.
You can really see that they rushed this game. The game can be glitchy and ugly at times. For some reason the cutscenes are just unbearably ugly and unfinished. There are no pistols present which also sucks. Although, I do think that the last mission was better than in Just Cause 3.
It’s an alright game, but a sad, rushed cashgrab for a Just Cause game. I was expecting better. Again, this no way near a bad game, I just think that if they would’ve ironed out the glitches, improved the story a bit and didn’t rush the game as much. Then we would’ve had a much better Just Cause game.
